Budgewoi's junior sporting history includes a rugby league player who progressed to first grade in Australia and professional competition in England. The local connection is a recorded junior club rather than a birthplace.
🏉 Karl Lovell
Karl Lovell played junior rugby league with Budgewoi Buff Point Bulldogs before beginning his first-grade career at Parramatta in 1997. Born in Auckland, he went on to play 37 first-grade matches for the Eels, followed by time with Sheffield and Huddersfield-Sheffield in England. Back in Australia he played for the Northern Eagles and Cronulla-Sutherland. Rugby League Central Coast's honour roll records his Budgewoi junior connection. His later community involvement included mentoring at Toukley, another of his junior clubs. Parramatta commemorated his career after his death in July 2026.
